Service Description
Social & Emotional Learning with Horses Learning happens through experience, movement, and connection. Our Equine Assisted Learning classes invite participants to learn with horses as active partners, not equipment. Horses notice body language, breathing, and energy, offering honest feedback that helps learners understand themselves and how they relate to others. All programs begin on the ground, where participants build confidence and safe connection with the horse. After several sessions, and in consultation with you and our team, learning may progress into the saddle when appropriate. What Participants Explore Through hands-on activities, learners develop: awareness of feelings in the body staying calm in challenging moments clear, respectful communication confidence in social situations personal space and boundaries teamwork, empathy, and cooperation Horses reflect what they notice. If a participant becomes tense, the horse may slow or pause. With mentor guidance, learners practise adjusting their approach and trying again. These skills carry into school, friendships, family, and community life. How Classes Are Structured Each one-hour session is guided by an experienced mentor and a gentle horse. Activities are tailored to individual goals and may include: ground-based learning with the horse observation and communication tasks obstacle and connection activities Games on Horseback for social learning the licensed Horses Helping Humans™ Youth Program tailored mentorship with Will Programs suit children, teens, and young adults, with classes adapted to comfort level and experience. Personalised progress reports are available on request. Education Aligned with NDIS Goals Classes can align with goals such as: social participation and confidence communication development emotional awareness skills community engagement Supports may be accessed through Core or Capacity Building, including Innovative Community Participation where applicable. Getting Started The first session is a getting-to-know-each-other class to meet the participant, introduce the horses, and explore goals and interests. This helps everyone decide if the program is the right fit. There is no obligation to continue after the first session.
