Bring the Horses Helping Humans™ Youth Program to South Australia

Exclusively delivered at Alkira Adina Equestrian

Alkira Adina Equestrian is proud to be the only licensed provider in South Australia delivering the nationally recognised Horses Helping Humans™ Youth Program.

This results-based program has supported young people across Australia to rebuild confidence, emotional regulation, communication, and respect through safe, structured interactions with horses.

Designed for at-risk and disengaged youth, the program uses natural horsemanship ground skills to teach life skills that classrooms often struggle to reach. There is no riding involved. Instead, horses become honest teachers, responding to calm assertiveness, clear boundaries, and genuine connection.

Why Horses?

Horses read body language like open books. They notice the unspoken and respond to intention rather than words. For young people who have experienced instability, trauma, or low trust, this creates a powerful mirror:

  • Calm behaviour brings willing cooperation

  • Aggression creates resistance

  • Respect is returned with respect

  • Confidence grows through small, achievable steps

Many participants experience, sometimes for the first time, what it feels like to be met without judgement.

What Youth Learn

Through practical activities such as:

  • Establishing safe boundaries

  • Leading a horse through agility courses

  • Circling on a 12-foot lead

  • Guiding horses over small obstacles

Young people develop:

  • Emotional control and self-awareness

  • Healthy communication and body language

  • Trust, empathy, and respect

  • Problem solving and resilience

  • Confidence to re-engage with school and community

Program Structure

  • Duration: 1.5–2 hours per week for 3 consecutive weeks

  • Group Size: 3–6 participants

  • Support: Youth workers attend with participants

  • Resources: Workbooks provided for ongoing case-worker follow-up

  • Final Week: Presentation showcase with certificates, trophies, and ribbons

The structure is transport-friendly, outcomes-focused, and designed to integrate with existing care plans.

Proven Outcomes

Across Australia, the Horses Helping Humans™ model has contributed to:

  • Improved behaviour and reduced school suspensions

  • Greater engagement with education and services

  • Stronger relationships with peers, family, and workers

  • Increased emotional literacy and self-regulation

The program is widely used by psychologists, youth & family services, schools, and community organisations seeking a practical alternative to talk-based interventions.

Who It’s For

Ideal for young people experiencing:

  • Anxiety, depression, or emotional dysregulation

  • Family disruption or domestic violence

  • Low self-esteem and disengagement from school

  • Difficulties with trust, boundaries, and relationships
