Horse Feeding & Care Skills Programme
Learn the practical skills behind caring for horses.
This program is available 9-10am Tuesday- Friday
Have you ever wanted to understand more about what goes into caring for horses beyond riding?
Our Horse Feeding & Care Skills Programme gives you the opportunity to develop practical horse care skills through structured, hands-on learning at Alkira Adina Equestrian.
Designed for adults who want to expand their knowledge and confidence around horses, this programme combines practical instruction, supervised experience and a guided workbook to help you understand the responsibilities involved in daily horse care.
No horse ownership required.
What will you learn?
Throughout the programme, you’ll develop your understanding of:
Horse identification and individual feeding requirements.
Different feed types and their purposes.
Feed preparation and accurate measuring.
Safe horse handling during feeding routines.
Hay, forage and supplementary feeding procedures.
Recognising changes in horse behaviour and appetite.
Basic horse welfare awareness and when to seek assistance.
Property safety, equipment care and security procedures.
Completing an established feeding routine consistently and safely.
You’ll learn why the small details matter and how consistency, observation and following instructions contribute to responsible horse care.
How does the programme work?
The programme includes eight individual practical training sessions, each approximately one hour long.
Your learning progresses through four stages:
1. Observe
Get to know the horses, their individual requirements and the feeding systems used at Alkira Adina Equestrian.
2. Practise
Develop your practical skills through supervised activities with an experienced member of our team.
3. Develop confidence
Build your understanding of the complete feeding routine, safe horse handling and recognising when something needs attention.
4. Demonstrate your skills
Complete a practical assessment to demonstrate your understanding and ability to follow the approved procedures.
You’ll also work through a student workbook containing learning activities, questions, practical checklists and reflection exercises.
What if I need more training?
Everyone learns at a different pace.
The programme fee includes up to ten hours of training, allowing for additional practice and assessment where needed.
If further sessions are required beyond the included ten hours, we’ll discuss your progress and any additional costs with you before proceeding.
Completion of the programme and issue of a certificate depend on demonstrating the required competencies, not simply attending a set number of sessions.
What’s included?
Your programme fee includes:
Eight one-hour practical training sessions.
Up to two additional hours for further practice and assessment, if required.
A structured student workbook.
Supervised practical learning with our team.
Trainer feedback and competency assessment.
A Certificate of Competency on successful completion.
Your investment
$595 AUD
Your programme fee covers the structured training experience, workbook and assessment, including up to ten hours of practical instruction.
Additional training beyond the included ten hours may be available by arrangement and will be discussed with you beforehand.

Will I receive a certificate?
Yes. Participants who successfully demonstrate the required skills and complete the assessment will receive an Alkira Adina Equestrian Certificate of Competency.
The certificate recognises competency against our programme’s internal assessment criteria. It is not a nationally recognised qualification or an accredited training credential.
Could this lead to future opportunities?
Our programme is designed to provide a valuable learning experience in its own right.
Some participants may be interested in developing their skills further, including exploring additional horse care learning opportunities.
Occasionally, opportunities to work with us may arise. However, completing the programme does not guarantee employment, paid feeding shifts or independent access to the property.
Any future work arrangement or independent access would be considered separately.
